And, in a turn of twisted fate, it was the superior film that failed financially (for a multitude of reasons). Instead, his devoted performance perpetually elevates the film, and it's hopeful that the quality will lead to similarly interesting, mainstream projects in the beloved actor's future.Įven if David Ayer's 2016 Suicide Squad wasn't noticeably butchered by studio demands and worries, it probably wouldn't be as strong as James Gunn's The Suicide Squad. The actor chews up the scenery, but never in a way that's overwhelming. Speaking of likable performers, Sonic the Hedgehog and Parks and Recreation's Ben Schwartz get to have a lot of fun playing against type as ineffectual gangster Teddy Lobo.
Hoult portrays the titular character, who has been strapped to Cage's Dracula for far, far too long. Awkwafina is much the same, further proving herself as one of the most likable performers in Hollywood today.
As the title character, Nicholas Hoult is as sweet and endearing as can be.
Nicolas Cage's return to theatrical features, Renfield, may not have done nearly as well at the box office as everyone involved wanted it to, but it's a bloodsucking good time nonetheless.
